STEM at The Helix

STEM at The Helix

Everything Science, Technology, Engineering and Math hit The Helix park on the 18th and 19th May 2018. We had over 300 local S1 school pupils visit on day 1 for an afternoon of workshops, where all the students got to meet with industry professionals and have a hands-on experience with related activities.

Our industry partners who inspired students included The Glasgow Science Centre with their electronics workshop, and               Balfour Beatty who provided activity which gave the pupils insight into the construction of the new Forth Valley College.

All of the STEM fun was then open to the public for our free event on day 2, when over 8,000 people visited the park to discover their #lightbulbmoment! As well as all the interactive activities available on day 1, we had Zoolab on hand with lots of critters to get up close to as well as a spectacular show by Dr Bunhead. Young people also got to make slime, experiment with detergents, build with Lego and had a crack at coding!

We had a fantastic couple of days and hope all of you did too! From your feedback the event was deemed a success, and requests have come in already for another STEM event next year. Guess we'd better get planning...
